Political violence, state-sponsored censorship are troubling signs

First, there was the murder of Charlie Kirk. Anyone who watched the videos circulating online of the blood spurting from the young man’s neck should have been disgusted, even if you disagreed with the awful things Kirk said over the years.

I once thought America was above this kind of political violence. Kirk’s death and the recent murders of Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota proves that, clearly, we are not.

Then came the news this week — equally as stunning to me, as someone who works in the news media — that Jimmy Kimmel had been pulled off the air after the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission made threats to ABC while speaking on a podcast.
